Brighton sanction season-long exit for highly rated goalkeeper

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Nils Ramming has joined Rochdale on loan for the full 2026/27 season.

The 19-year-old will first spend time with Fabian Hürzeler’s squad during Brighton’s pre-season training camp in France before linking up with his new teammates.

Rochdale, promoted through the National League play-offs last season, identified Ramming as one of their priority goalkeeping targets. The League Two club confirmed his arrival through their official signing announcement, with head coach Ian Watson praising his composure in possession and suitability for their style.

Ramming joined Brighton from Eintracht Frankfurt in June 2025 and signed a contract running until 2030. He had previously played senior football for Frankfurt’s reserve side and has represented Sweden at youth level.

Rochdale loan offers valuable senior pathway

Brighton sporting director Mike Cave described the move as an important opportunity for Ramming to continue his development in the men’s game.

The goalkeeper has impressed with Albion’s under-21 side, including during their EFL Trophy campaign, but regular League Two football should expose him to greater physical and tactical demands.

Rochdale believe Ramming’s distribution can support their possession-based approach. Watson also confirmed the teenager had been extensively monitored before the club moved to complete the deal.

The loan follows Brighton’s recent addition of another young goalkeeper, Oliver Mayer. As Read Brighton reported after Mayer’s arrival, Albion continue to strengthen their academy goalkeeping group while creating senior pathways for players already further along in their development.

Ramming now has the chance to establish himself as Rochdale’s first-choice goalkeeper and return to Brighton with a full season of EFL experience.
