Brighton Round-Up: Solly March’s Doha Message, Baleba’s Man Utd Stock Fades Further

Solly March has broken his silence from warm-weather training in Doha as Newcastle United and Everton continue to be linked with the free agent, while Carlos Baleba’s road back to Manchester United looks longer after Fabrizio Romano named two rival targets above him.

Solly March: “Ready For What’s Next”

March, who left Brighton this summer after his contract expired following 13 years at the club, posted an Instagram update from a training camp in Doha reading: “Working in the heat and ready for what’s next.” The 31-year-old made his 300th and final appearance for the Seagulls as a substitute in the final-day defeat to Manchester United at the Amex.

Newcastle and Everton remain among the clubs credited with an interest, a list that has also included Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Coventry City and Ipswich Town since Brighton confirmed his departure. March made 300 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and adding 31 assists, and is now fully fit after the knee problems that disrupted his final Albion seasons.

Baleba’s Man Utd Case Slips Further Down The List

Carlos Baleba’s hopes of a Manchester United reunion look increasingly stuck. Romano said on his YouTube channel that Baleba “would be super keen on joining Manchester United, but, at the moment, Utd have not returned with an approach or a proposal to Brighton,” adding the situation is “a little bit cold.” Romano said United’s midfield search is now centred on Roma’s Manu Kone and Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga as they look for a player who can do the “dirty job” alongside new signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

According to David Ornstein, Brighton’s valuation of Baleba has eased from last year’s £100million mark but still sits at around £70million, a figure United have so far been unwilling to meet. The 22-year-old Cameroon international had an underwhelming 2025/26 campaign, and his stock among United’s midfield options has fallen behind their newer targets.
