Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on completing the formalities of their club-record deal for Luka Vuskovic, with the Tottenham centre-back now free to undergo his medical after Croatia’s exit from the FIFA World Cup.
According to a fresh update from Sussex Express, Brighton have agreed a fee worth up to £50m for the 19-year-old, comprising an initial £46m with a further £4m in performance-related add-ons, plus a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights retained by Spurs. The move has been delayed only by Vuskovic’s involvement at the World Cup, with Croatia’s exit from the tournament now clearing him for a medical.
Fabian Hurzeler Eyes Record Signing In Place For France Training Camp
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler is understood to be keen to have his new centre-back settled in before Albion’s pre-season training camp in France, with the squad due to travel later this month. Sky Sports has reported the fee will make Vuskovic Brighton’s most expensive signing, surpassing the £40m the club paid Leeds United for Georginio Rutter in August 2024.
ESPN’s transfer desk has separately confirmed the structure of the deal, noting Vuskovic joined Tottenham from Hajduk Split in 2023 but never made a senior appearance for the north London club, developing instead through a season-long loan at Hamburg that turned him into one of Europe’s most sought-after young defenders.
With Jan Paul van Hecke already having departed for Tottenham this summer and Diego Coppola closing in on a permanent exit to Paris FC, Vuskovic’s arrival would hand Hurzeler fresh competition alongside Lewis Dunk and Igor Julio at the heart of Brighton’s pre-season trip to France preparations. The move remains one of the defining pieces of Albion’s summer transfer window, and confirmation of the medical is expected to follow in the coming days.
