  • European football could accelerate his development further

A product of the club’s academy, Jack Hinshelwood has developed from a local prospect into one of the most exciting young players at the Amex Stadium, with his rise reflecting Brighton’s continued commitment to youth development.

Hinshelwood joined Brighton’s academy at the age of seven and progressed through every level of the club’s youth system.

Football runs through the family name. His great-grandfather Wally Hinshelwood, grandfather Paul, father Adam and several other relatives all played professionally, making his emergence in Brighton colours feel particularly fitting.

A Brighton academy success story

After impressing in the academy setup, Hinshelwood signed his first professional contract in April 2023 and made his senior debut a month later as a substitute against Aston Villa.

His breakthrough arrived during the 2023/24 campaign.

Initially deployed in midfield, Hinshelwood quickly demonstrated the versatility that has become one of his defining qualities. Comfortable in central midfield, defensive positions and even advanced roles, he established himself as a valuable option for Brighton managers.

His first senior goal came in December 2023 when he scored in a 2-1 victory over Brentford at the Amex Stadium.

The goal represented another milestone in what had already become a memorable debut season.

Technically gifted and tactically intelligent, Hinshelwood has often been praised for his maturity despite his young age. His ability to read the game, operate under pressure and adapt to multiple positions has made him a trusted member of Brighton’s squad.

England recognition and international progress

Those qualities have also been recognised internationally.

After progressing through England’s youth setup, Hinshelwood became an important figure for the Under-21 side and played a major role during England’s successful UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign.

He featured prominently throughout the knockout stages and played every minute of the final as England defeated Germany 3-2 after extra time to lift the trophy.

The experience further accelerated his development and strengthened his growing reputation as one of England’s brightest young talents. The 2025/26 season brought further progress.

Hinshelwood became an increasingly influential figure within Fabian Hurzeler’s squad as Brighton secured a return to European football through qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

Why the future looks so bright for Hinshelwood

His performances earned wider recognition, including reports that he had been included on Thomas Tuchel’s extended England radar. Still only 21, Hinshelwood’s ceiling remains exceptionally high.

With Brighton preparing for another European campaign and the midfielder continuing to develop physically and tactically, the coming seasons could prove pivotal for both player and club.

For Brighton supporters, Hinshelwood represents something increasingly rare in modern football: a local academy graduate becoming a genuine first-team star.

His journey is already impressive. The next chapter could be even bigger.
