- Talks reportedly underway for Facundo Buonanotte
- Brighton midfielder Buonanotte attracting major interest
- Loan move emerging as preferred transfer solution
River Plate’s interest in Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte appears to be entering a decisive stage, with reports from Argentina suggesting the club has now opened discussions over a potential move.
The 21-year-old spent the latter half of last season on loan at Leeds United, where opportunities in the starting lineup were limited. Even so, his performances and long-term potential have continued to attract admirers both in Europe and South America.
While interest in the midfielder has been well documented in recent months, fresh claims indicate the Argentine giants are now actively pursuing an agreement rather than simply monitoring developments.
According to journalist Germán Balcarce, speaking on DSports Radio, conversations regarding a possible transfer have already begun. The update represents the clearest sign yet that efforts are being made to transform admiration into a concrete deal.

Loan proposal emerging as preferred option
Reports from TyC Sports suggest a loan arrangement is viewed as the most realistic route to securing Buonanotte’s services.
The Buenos Aires outfit have increasingly relied on temporary deals in recent transfer windows and such an approach would allow them to avoid a substantial upfront fee.
Sources in Argentina claim Buonanotte has not ruled out a return to his homeland. Speculation has also been fuelled by the player’s recent appearance in Buenos Aires alongside his representative Kristian Bereit.
Bereit is understood to enjoy a strong relationship with key figures at the club and previously played a role in the move that brought highly rated Ecuadorian talent Kendry Páez to Argentina.
Why they want Buonanotte
Manager Eduardo Coudet is believed to be a driving force behind the club’s interest. The coach reportedly views Buonanotte as an ideal fit for his tactical plans and values his ability to unlock defences with creativity and intelligent movement.
Argentine media outlets report that the midfielder’s profile has been discussed extensively within the club’s leadership structure, with decision makers convinced he can strengthen the squad ahead of a demanding second half of the season.
Further reports from Soy del Millo suggest sporting director Pablo Longoria has taken a particularly active role in the pursuit. Buonanotte is said to rank among the club’s priority targets as preparations continue for domestic and continental competition.
The outlet states:
“Longoria is obsessed with Buonanotte.”
Soy del Millo also reports that Longoria has already presented the club’s sporting project to the player’s representatives as efforts to secure a deal gather pace.

Brighton midfielder Buonanotte remains a difficult deal
Despite growing confidence in Argentina, Brighton remain firmly in control of Buonanotte’s future.
The midfielder is reportedly valued at around €16 million (£13.8 million). A figure that would place a permanent transfer beyond immediate reach. As a result, discussions have largely centred on a loan deal potentially accompanied by a future purchase option.
Whether Brighton would consider a return to Argentine football the best next step in the player’s development remains uncertain.
What is becoming increasingly clear, however, is that interest in the Seagulls midfielder is no longer speculative. Multiple reports now point to active negotiations as efforts intensify to bring Buonanotte back to Buenos Aires.
