  • Brighton are closely monitoring Lille midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau
  • Several Premier League clubs are also tracking the 21-year-old
  • Mukau fits Brighton’s recruitment model perfectly

Brighton & Hove Albion are understood to be closely monitoring Lille midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau as the club continues planning for a return to European football next season, according to TEAMtalk.

The Seagulls have reportedly carried out detailed scouting checks on the 21-year-old defensive midfielder, who has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most promising young talents following an impressive campaign in France.

Mukau enjoyed a breakthrough season with Lille, helping the club secure a third-place finish while also gaining valuable European experience.

Why Mukau has attracted Premier League attention

The Belgian-born DR Congo international made 30 league appearances and featured regularly during Lille’s Europa League campaign, attracting attention from several Premier League recruitment departments.

Brighton are believed to be among the clubs showing the strongest interest. The midfielder’s profile aligns closely with the type of player Brighton have targeted successfully in recent years: young, technically gifted and possessing significant development potential.

Sources suggest Brighton particularly admire Mukau’s ability to influence games both defensively and in possession. His athleticism, tactical awareness and versatility have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in France.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton and Brentford have also reportedly tracked his progress, setting up what could become a competitive race should Lille become open to negotiations.

Could Brighton’s Lille connection help?

Brighton’s relationship with Lille could potentially prove significant.

The two clubs worked closely during the transfer that brought Carlos Baleba to the Amex, and existing connections between the clubs may help facilitate discussions if interest develops further.

Mukau is contracted until 2028 and Lille are understood to view him as an important part of their long-term plans.

The departure of Lille’s manager, however, has reportedly led several interested clubs to believe opportunities could emerge during the summer window.

Brighton are expected to strengthen multiple areas of the squad ahead of next season’s UEFA Conference League campaign.

A player who fits Brighton’s transfer strategy

While central midfield is not necessarily viewed as a priority position, the club continues to identify emerging talent capable of improving squad depth and providing long-term value. Mukau fits that model perfectly.

The Seagulls have built their recruitment strategy around signing young players before they reach their peak value, and the Lille midfielder appears to match many of the characteristics Brighton traditionally seek.

According to Transfermarkt, Mukau currently holds a market value of around €12 million, though Lille would likely demand considerably more following his performances this season.

With interest continuing to grow across the Premier League, Brighton’s recruitment team appear determined to ensure they remain firmly in the conversation for one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders.
