At a glance
- Brighton have 19 different Premier League goalscorers
- Fabian Hurzeler’s system spreading attacking responsibility
- European push boosted by unpredictable attacking threat
When Lewis Dunk powered home Brighton’s second goal against Wolves, it did more than put Fabian Hurzeler’s side firmly in control.
It also made the Brighton captain the club’s 19th different Premier League goalscorer this season. No side in the division has had more.
On the surface, that statistic may feel surprising.
Brighton have often looked heavily reliant on Danny Welbeck in front of goal this season. The 34-year-old is enjoying the best league scoring campaign of his career with 13 Premier League goals, and there have been moments where his experience and composure have carried Brighton’s attack almost single-handedly.
Brighton No Longer Relying on One Goalscorer
Without Welbeck, Brighton’s season probably looks very different. Especially when you consider that the Seagulls’ next highest goalscorer is Diego Gomez with five in the Premier League this season.
But Dunk becoming Brighton’s 19th different scorer highlights something equally important about this squad under Hurzeler: goals can come from anywhere. It’s that unpredictability that has become one of Brighton’s biggest strengths during the run-in.
Jack Hinshelwood has now scored in three consecutive matches from his advanced midfield role. Yankuba Minteh continues to grow in confidence. Gomez has contributed throughout the campaign when available. Kaoru Mitoma has delivered big moments despite injury problems. Even defenders like Dunk are now making decisive attacking contributions from set pieces.
Although it may look like it on paper, Brighton aren’t really relying on one attacking focal point. They are spreading responsibility across the entire team and that matters tactically.
Hurzeler’s Tactical Approach Creating Variety
Opponents cannot simply stop Welbeck and expect Brighton’s threat to disappear. Hurzeler’s system demands movement from multiple areas, particularly from midfield runners and wide players attacking the penalty area aggressively.
Recent weeks have reflected that perfectly. As well as the 3-0 win over Wolves this weekend, where each goal was scored by a different player, none of which were Welbeck.
Hinshelwood’s emergence as a number 10 has added another consistent runner beyond the striker. Full-backs like Maxim De Cuyper and Ferdi Kadioglu are creating more from wide areas and set pieces have become increasingly dangerous. Brighton’s attacking structure now feels far less predictable than it did during difficult periods earlier in the season.
But perhaps the statistic also says something bigger about the squad itself.
Throughout the campaign, Hurzeler has repeatedly spoken about togetherness, collective responsibility and building a high-performance culture. At times, those comments may have sounded like standard managerial language. Now, though, the numbers support the message.
Nineteen different goalscorers reflects a team where contributions are coming from everywhere. It reflects a dressing room where younger players are stepping up alongside experienced figures. It reflects tactical flexibility, but also trust.

Squad Depth Becoming Crucial in European Race
Trust that players across the squad will deliver when the moment arrives. That belief has become increasingly important during Brighton’s push for Europe.
In previous seasons, Brighton often relied on rhythm and fluid attacking football to overwhelm opponents. This year has felt different at times. Injuries disrupted momentum constantly, forcing Hurzeler to rotate systems and profiles throughout the campaign.
Yet Brighton have still continued finding goals. Not through one superstar carrying the team, but through contributions spread across the squad.
And as the race for European football enters its final weeks, that variety may ultimately become one of Brighton’s biggest advantages.
