After ending his playing career aged 22, he joined FC Pipinsried as a player-coach, and then went to coach them as well as taking on the job of assistant manager of the National u18 and u20 teams. After leaving FC Pipinsried, he joined FC St. Pauli as assistant coach in 2020 before taking charge as interim head coach in 2022.

When he became permanent manager later on that season, he was the youngest head coach in the 2. Bundesliga at 29 year old. Fabian turned their fortunes around, taking St Pauli from the relegation places to close to the promotion places with 10 wins in a row. He extended his contract in March 2024, and in May St Pauli was promoted to the Bundesliga.

Brighton Career

Hürzeler joined the Seagulls in June 2024, as the replacement for Roberto De Zerbi. In his first competitive match, the Seagulls won 3-0 away at Everton. Hürzeler’s team were unbeaten at the start of the 2024/25 season, with win at home against Manchester United, and an away draw at Arsenal. Those results saw Hürzeler the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August 2024.

In his first season in charge, the Albion finished in eighth, after beating Europa League winners Spurs 4-1, achieving their first ever double over them. However, Brighton missed out on European qualification as Crystal Palace won the FA Cup. Since being at Brighton, he has won 43.5% of his games, making more successful than De Zerbi (42.7%). Brighton can still qualify for Europe this season, which would be a successful season after missing out last time.
