Brighton have confirmed the signing of Portugal Under-21 winger Rodrigo Rego from Benfica on a five-year contract.
The club announced the deal on Wednesday morning, with the 21-year-old arriving for undisclosed terms after making five senior appearances for Benfica last season. That run included a Champions League debut against Ajax in November and a first league start four days later against Nacional.

Mike Cave Adds Another High-Upside Wide Option
Technical director Mike Cave described Rego as an “exciting talent”, stressing that Brighton believe they can help him continue his development after his first exposure to senior football.
The move fits a familiar Albion pattern: recruit before the market fully hardens, then trust the pathway to turn potential into first-team pressure. Rego has already worked through Porto, Famalicao and Benfica’s academy structure, giving Brighton a player with technical schooling and European experience rather than a raw punt.
It also lands in the same strategic space as Read Brighton’s recent look at why Harry Howell interest underlined Brighton’s academy test. For Fabian Hurzeler, Rego now becomes another wide attacker to measure carefully through pre-season: close enough to senior football to matter, but still young enough for Albion’s development machine to shape.
