Brighton & Hove Albion face a fresh decision over Malick Yalcouye after TSG Hoffenheim reportedly opened talks over a permanent move for the midfielder.
According to Brighton reporter Charlie Parker-Turner, Hoffenheim are in discussions with Albion over a deal for the 20-year-old. Roundtable’s Brighton channel has also reported that the Bundesliga club have shown firm interest as the summer window begins to accelerate.
Fabian Hurzeler Handed Midfield Pathway Call
Yalcouye joined Brighton from IFK Goteborg in 2024, with the club confirming a contract until June 2029. His pathway has already been carefully managed: Albion later sent him to Swansea City after a Sturm Graz spell in which Brighton noted he won the Austrian Bundesliga and the league’s Young Player of the Year award.
That context makes Hoffenheim’s interest more than a routine loan-market footnote. Brighton have built their recruitment model on protecting upside, but midfield competition is tightening under Fabian Hurzeler and the club must decide whether Yalcouye is still a first-team project or a saleable asset.
The timing is significant. Albion have already been active around their squad structure this summer, with Jan Paul van Hecke’s Tottenham move putting defensive succession planning under the spotlight. A Yalcouye exit would ask a different question: how quickly Brighton are willing to cash in on developing midfield talent before it gets a proper Amex run.
