Brighton have reportedly made a bid worth around £30million for Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor, turning their recent interest into a serious summer test.
Football Italia, via Yahoo Sports, reports that Albion have lodged an offer in the region of €34million for the 18-year-old.
Ben Jacobs has also stated that Brighton have moved for the Atalanta centre-back, with the bid placed at around £30million.
Atalanta Stance Makes This A Proper Brighton Test
This is no speculative punt.
Ahanor only joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer, and the Italian club are under little pressure to sell after a season in which the teenager built a major senior profile.
That is why Brighton’s move is significant.
Albion had already looked at the player from an exploratory angle, but a bid changes the temperature.
The left-footed defender fits the club’s recruitment logic: young, scalable, technically flexible and already exposed to elite Serie A and European football.
After the exit of Jan Paul van Hecke, Brighton need to rebuild defensive upside without losing long-term resale value.
That is where Ahanor makes sense for Fabian Hurzeler.
This would not be a cheap depth addition. It would be a statement investment in the next defensive core, at a point when Brighton’s European schedule has made early squad clarity more important.
Read Brighton has already looked at why Costinha’s arrival gives Hurzeler useful right-back depth, and Ahanor would attack a different part of the same problem.
Atalanta can still hold firm, but Brighton have now placed a clear number on the table.
For Hurzeler, this would be a statement addition rather than a squad filler.
