Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the Sean Keogh Southend loan, sending the 20-year-old left-back to National League side Southend United for a month.
Keogh moves out on a temporary basis in search of regular senior football away from the Amex.
The defender joined Albion from Irish club Dundalk in 2025.
He now switches to Kieron Dyer’s Southend side for the duration of the deal, with the loan running for a single month before Brighton review his progress.
Sean Keogh Completes Southend United Loan Move
Keogh’s switch to Southend gives him his first taste of senior men’s football since arriving at Brighton. The National League club have brought him in as cover and competition at left-back, a position Dyer has been looking to strengthen.
Brighton have not disclosed any option to extend the loan, and the club’s statement made clear the arrangement is for a single month only.
Brighton Sporting Director Mike Cave Confirms Transfer Details
Brighton sporting director Mike Cave confirmed the move, as reported by The Argus.
Cave explained that the loan reflects Keogh’s progress through the club’s development pathway and gives him a natural next step.
“Sean has been a key part of the under-21s since his arrival, but this loan to Southend presents a fantastic opportunity for him to add to these experiences with first team football.”
Under-21 Title Winner Steps Into Senior Football Pathway
Keogh made 23 appearances in Premier League 2 last season as Shannon Ruth’s under-21 side won the title via the playoffs.
That run of games marked him out as ready for a step up into senior competition.
He is not the only Albion academy player to head out on loan this season.
Charlie Tasker has already joined Rochdale on a season-long deal, part of a wider pattern of young players being trusted with first-team minutes elsewhere.
Some of that development work took place during Albion’s setup in Austria, where fringe players were assessed alongside senior squad members in pre-season testing matches.
Southend Fixture Timeline and Keogh First-Team Outlook
Southend manager Kieron Dyer, who won 33 England caps and featured in England’s squads for the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, said he was closing in on two signings ahead of his side’s home match against Barrow on Saturday.
Keogh is one of those arrivals, giving Dyer fresh options at left-back for that fixture.
