Brighton have been handed a fresh Igor Julio transfer decision after Schalke 04 opened talks over a possible move for the Brazilian defender.
According to Sky Sport Germany, Schalke have identified Igor as a loan target and would also like to secure a purchase option, although the financial framework is still central to whether the deal can move.
Bulinews, citing Fussballdaten, reports that talks between the clubs are ongoing, with the loan fee and the value of any buy option understood to be the main sticking points.
Fabian Hurzeler Faces Another Defensive Depth Call
Igor’s position at Brighton has looked fragile for months. The 28-year-old spent part of last season on loan at West Ham United before that move was cut short, and Brighton’s official profile notes that injury restricted him to 13 Premier League appearances in his second Albion campaign after 33 outings in his first.
That context matters because Brighton are already reshaping their defensive group. ReadBrighton has covered Albion’s Michael Svoboda move, the Luka Vuskovic pursuit and the wider need for centre-back depth.
A Schalke switch would not yet be a done deal. But if Brighton can attach a credible purchase route to the loan, Igor’s exit may become a practical way to clear space while Fabian Hurzeler’s back line is rebuilt for a European season.
