Minteh Injury Overshadows Brighton’s Impressive Roma Win
A Minteh injury took the gloss off Brighton’s 3-0 pre-season win over Roma at the Amex on Saturday, with Fabian Hürzeler left to await scan results after his winger limped off in clear pain. Yankuba Minteh was hurt in an awkward tangle with Bryan Cristante and, having tried to carry on, went down a second time before being helped from the pitch.
What we know about the Minteh injury
The setback was the one sour note on an otherwise convincing evening for the Seagulls. Georginio Rutter curled in a superb opener before Yasin Ayari struck twice against the Serie A side, as Hürzeler handed minutes to 21 different players. With the new Premier League campaign and a Conference League play-off round on the horizon, losing a first-choice wide man – even briefly – is the last thing the Albion need before the real business begins.
Of course, it’s not a great sign if a player has to go off because of pain, but we have to wait for the scan. In general, I’m a positive person, so let’s stay positive and wait for the scan.
Hürzeler was careful not to jump to conclusions, as reported by The Argus, and Brighton have not put a timeline on the problem or confirmed the extent of the damage.
Minteh’s fitness will now be watched closely on the south coast. The Gambian was one of the standout performers of last season and the subject of serious Liverpool interest this summer, so any lay-off would be a blow with the Seagulls’ opening fixtures fast approaching. Supporters will be hoping the scan brings better news than Saturday’s sight of their winger trudging off suggested.
