Liverpool interest leaves Brighton facing major Yankuba Minteh decision

Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh has reportedly emerged as a possible Liverpool target if the Reds fail to sign Bradley Barcola.

TalkSPORT reports that Liverpool have discussed the Gambia international while assessing alternatives to the Paris Saint-Germain winger.

However, there is no indication that talks have started with Brighton. Ben Jacobs also stressed that nothing is currently developing around Minteh.

Liverpool are looking for another wide attacker as they reshape their forward line. Barcola remains among their leading options, but PSG’s position is that the France international is not for sale.

Minteh is joined by Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo on Liverpool’s wider shortlist.

Brighton hold strong Minteh position

The report gives Brighton no immediate reason to panic.

Minteh remains under contract until 2029 and is an established member of Fabian Hürzeler’s first-team squad. The 21-year-old has made 66 Premier League appearances, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists.

Albion also invested around £30m to sign him from Newcastle United in 2024. ReadBrighton previously ranked Minteh as the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history.

His pace, direct running and ability to attack full-backs make him an understandable Liverpool target. He also offers Premier League experience despite still being at an early stage of his career.

The talkSPORT report currently presents Minteh as a fallback rather than an active target.

Brighton therefore retain control of the situation. Any serious approach would need to reflect Minteh’s age, contract length and importance to Hürzeler.

For now, Liverpool’s interest is one to monitor rather than a sign that a deal is close.
