Brighton 3 Roma 0: Ayari Double and Rutter Stunner Light Up the Amex
Brighton 3 Roma 0 was the story at the Amex on Saturday as the Seagulls opened their home pre-season with a comfortable win over the Serie A side, Yasin Ayari striking twice and Georginio Rutter adding a stunner. It was a polished afternoon’s work from Fabian Hürzeler’s reshaped Albion against well-known European opposition.
The result gave supporters their first Amex sight of a forward line adjusting to life after Danny Welbeck. Rutter set the tone with the pick of the goals before Ayari took over, drilling home twice to put the friendly beyond a Roma side still chasing their first clean sheet of the summer. The win continued Brighton’s European pre-season countdown.
How Brighton 3 Roma 0 unfolded at the Amex
There was plenty for the home crowd to enjoy. Rutter’s finish was the stand-out, and Ayari’s brace underlined the depth Hürzeler can call on this season, as The Argus reported from the Amex. A clean sheet against a team that reached the Champions League last term will please the head coach as his squad builds towards a competitive campaign that begins with a UEFA Conference League play-off.
Bologna follow Roma to the Amex in a week’s time, giving the Seagulls a second Serie A test before that European play-off gets under way. On this evidence, the Albion are shaping up nicely.
