Brighton retain Netherlands international ahead of new WSL season

Brighton have confirmed the Marisa Olislagers contract extension after the Netherlands defender committed her future to the club.

The 25-year-old has signed a new agreement following two impressive seasons on the south coast. Brighton have not disclosed the length of the contract.

Olislagers joined Albion from FC Twente in July 2024 and has since made 54 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals.

Head coach Dario Vidošić described her as a key and versatile member of his squad. He also praised the defender’s understanding of Brighton’s ambitions following last season’s run to Wembley.

“It was the right decision to stay,” Olislagers told Brighton’s official website.

“We’ve got a great team that’s made me feel very welcome, the playing style suits me and Dario is a great coach.”

The Dutch international believes competing against the WSL’s leading players has supported her development. She now wants Brighton to build on their first Women’s FA Cup final appearance and compete for further honours.

Keeping Olislagers provides continuity on the left side of Vidošić’s defence. Her ability to contribute in both phases also suits Brighton’s progressive playing style.

The agreement continues a productive period of squad planning. Albion recently confirmed that captain Maisie Symonds had also signed a new long-term contract.

Brighton have strengthened elsewhere by adding Lia Wälti, Emily Murphy and several other new arrivals. Retaining established performers remains equally important as Vidošić prepares to challenge the WSL’s leading clubs.

Olislagers has already become one of Brighton’s most dependable players. Her new deal keeps another important part of last season’s history-making squad at the club.
