Brighton goalkeeper Finley Taylor has joined Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer after leaving Albion’s academy. The 18-year-old has signed a contract at Ewood Park until 2028 following a successful trial last season.
Taylor spent five years with Brighton after joining the club at under-13 level. He progressed through the academy but was released at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The goalkeeper featured on the Premier League’s official list of players released by Brighton this summer. His move to Blackburn now gives him the opportunity to continue his development in a new academy system.

Taylor played against Manchester United during his trial with Blackburn last season. He said receiving confirmation of the move was a relief after facing uncertainty over his future.
His departure comes during a period of change within Brighton’s goalkeeping department. Bart Verbruggen remains Fabian Hürzeler’s first-choice option, while Jason Steele is expected to return following his role as an England training goalkeeper at the World Cup.
Brighton must also decide whether to retain or sell Carl Rushworth. The 25-year-old helped Coventry City win the Championship title during a successful loan spell last season.
ReadBrighton recently reported that Brighton rejected Coventry’s club-record £25million offer for Rushworth. Albion are believed to want closer to £30million, as well as a buy-back clause in any agreement.
Newcastle have also been linked with Rushworth, who wants regular Premier League football. Verbruggen’s reported admirers add another consideration for Brighton before making a final decision.
Finley Taylor joins Blackburn with a clear pathway to continue his development. Brighton, meanwhile, still have several important goalkeeping decisions to make before the new season.
