Tottenham Hotspur are tracking Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Jason Steele as part of their search for a new back-up option this summer.
The 35-year-old has emerged on a Spurs shortlist of three or four goalkeepers, with Leeds United’s Karl Darlow and Burnley’s Martin Dubravka also in the frame, according to TransferFeed’s summary of Paul O’Keefe’s update.
For Brighton, the interest is worth watching because Steele’s role has already shifted behind Bart Verbruggen, while Carl Rushworth’s future has also become a live summer question. Albion do not need to rush a decision, but any serious Tottenham move would test how much experienced cover Fabian Hurzeler wants to keep around his first-choice goalkeeper.
Steele Interest Fits Brighton Goalkeeper Picture
Steele remains a useful Premier League squad goalkeeper: experienced, comfortable enough with the ball, and trusted across different Brighton coaching staffs. That profile explains why Tottenham could view him as a low-drama No.2 while they reshape their own goalkeeper department.
The Brighton calculation is different. Selling Steele would only make sense if the club are fully comfortable promoting Rushworth into the matchday structure or sourcing another senior deputy. With European fixtures also on the horizon, Albion’s squad depth decisions now carry a little more weight than they did in a quieter season.
For now this is tracking rather than a bid, but it is the sort of modest-looking move that could quickly become relevant if Tottenham decide their back-up goalkeeper search needs a Premier League-ready answer.
