  • Brighton unbeaten in last eight Premier League games vs Wolves
  • Danny Welbeck enjoying best scoring season of career
  • Wolves struggling away from home this season

Brighton and Hove Albion return to the Amex Stadium on Saturday knowing a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers could prove crucial in the race for European football.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side saw their five-match unbeaten run ended by Newcastle United last weekend, but the Seagulls remain firmly in contention for a top-eight finish heading into the final three games of the season.

Ahead of the clash on the south coast, here are five standout stats that could shape the contest.

Brighton Are Unbeaten in Their Last Eight Premier League Meetings With Wolves

Brighton have not lost a Premier League match against Wolves since December 2021, going unbeaten across the last eight meetings between the two sides.

That strong run has included important victories at both the Amex and Molineux, while Brighton have also shown resilience in difficult moments, rescuing late points in the reverse fixture earlier this season through Jan Paul van Hecke’s equaliser.

However, Wolves have still proven awkward visitors in recent years. They have lost just one of their last six away league games against Brighton, with four of those matches ending level. It suggests Saturday may be tighter than the league table initially indicates.

Danny Welbeck Is Enjoying the Best Goalscoring Season of His Career

Danny Welbeck has scored 13 Premier League goals this season which is the best return of his top-flight. The 34-year-old has become increasingly important for Brighton during the run-in and arrives into the weekend in strong form after coming off the bench to score against Chelsea in the Seagulls’ last home game.

Welbeck also has an impressive recent record against Wolves, contributing six goals and two assists in 14 Premier League appearances against them across his career.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo, during the 2021/22 season, has scored more Premier League goals as a player aged 34 or older in recent years, underlining just how effective Welbeck has remained this campaign.

Wolves’ Away Form Has Been Historically Poor

Wolves travel to the Amex without an away win in their last 19 Premier League matches. It is their longest winless away run since a stretch of 23 games between 2003 and 2004, highlighting the scale of their struggles on the road this season.

Goals have also been a major issue. Wolves have scored just seven times in 17 away Premier League matches this campaign, an average of under 0.5 goals per game.

Only Norwich City during the 2019/20 season have averaged fewer away goals across a single Premier League campaign, showing just how difficult Wolves have found life away from home.

Brighton Rarely Lose Consecutive Premier League Matches

Despite defeat at Newcastle United last weekend, Brighton have generally responded well after setbacks this season. The Seagulls have lost consecutive Premier League games only once during the current campaign, with those defeats coming against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa back in February.

That consistency has been one of the key reasons Brighton remain in the hunt for European football heading into the final weeks of the season.

Hurzeler’s side have also collected 19 points from their last nine league matches, a run that has included victories over Liverpool and Chelsea at the Amex.

Brighton’s Attack Continues To Evolve Under Hurzeler

In Brighton’s first five Premier League seasons, their highest goals total in a single campaign was 42. This season, they have already scored 49 league goals with three matches still left to play.

Should Brighton score against Wolves, they will reach 50 Premier League goals for the fourth consecutive season. It would be another sign of the club’s continued attacking progression in recent years.

That increased attacking output could be crucial again on Saturday as Brighton look to take another step towards securing European football for the second time in the club’s history.
