Chema Andres on avoiding social media and rewatching Arsenal goal

Chema Andres has revealed he cannot resist watching his goal against Arsenal again, despite trying to keep a clear head while away with Spain’s under-21 squad. The Chema Andres Brighton goal came in a 3-0 win at the Amex, and clips of the strike keep reaching him from friends and family back home.

Speaking to The Argus, Andres explained why the goal keeps finding him even when he tries to switch off.

“I’ve probably seen it several times already, because it gets sent to me in my friends’ and family’s group chats and everything,” he said. “And I think, ‘Well, I’ll watch it again’. I’m excited, I won’t lie.”

The win, covered in our preview of the Amex clash against Arsenal, remains one of the highlights of Brighton’s season so far.

Chema Andres admits rewatching Arsenal goal on international duty

Andres stays away from social media to protect his focus, and he does not run his own Instagram account.

“I have Instagram, I have an account, but my brother manages it,” he told The Argus.

He said the decision to disconnect was deliberate rather than accidental.

“Last year I made the decision not to look at Instagram, not to look at anything, and I try to stay away from those things because, if you can’t see them, they are not going to affect you,” he explained.

The same discipline extends off the pitch too. Andres has worked with a sports psychologist for the past year, a step first suggested by his uncle.

“I’ve had a psychologist since last year. My uncle recommended him,” he said. “I’ve been working with him for a year now and I’m delighted. I think it’s very important these days.”

He believes the sessions have helped him grow as both a player and a person.

“On a personal level, it’s helping me gain confidence in myself and in some areas where I think I can improve. It’s giving me the tools to do so,” he told The Argus.

Andres has become an important presence in Fabian Hurzeler’s midfield this season, and his impact has been decisive in two of Brighton’s biggest results. He played his part as the Albion recovered from two goals down to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, then scored the clinching goal in the 3-0 win over Arsenal.

He finds Hurzeler’s principles familiar from his time in Germany.

“I’d say the initial approach is very similar to how we played at Stuttgart,” he told The Argus, before adding that “some nuances change depending on the opponent but the manager’s instructions are very similar.”

Andres described his own job as balancing defensive cover with support for attacks.

“Ultimately, it’s about giving the team balance. When it’s time to press, to go high if necessary, or to position ourselves ahead of the centre-backs to provide balance,” he said.

That work rate fits with the club’s broader focus on staying fit to sustain intensity across matches under Hurzeler’s demanding style.

He is also growing into more of a leader on the pitch.

“I already try to be quite assertive with my arms, with my voice. But that comes with experience, with time, and with the reputation you build within the team,” he told The Argus.

Andres remains on international duty with Spain’s under-21s for the rest of the window before rejoining Brighton’s first-team squad. The Chema Andres Brighton goal against Arsenal and his role in the comeback at Old Trafford have made him an increasingly trusted option for Hurzeler.

Fans will hope he carries that form back to the Amex once the international break ends, with Brighton looking to build on two of their strongest results of the season.
