Brighton’s Hurzeler and Three Players Up for September League Awards

Brighton Shortlisted Across Four Premier League September Categories

Fabian Hurzeler and three Brighton & Hove Albion players have been named on the Premier League’s shortlists for September’s monthly awards.

The Brighton Premier League awards nominations span three separate categories: Manager of the Month, Player of the Month and Goal of the Month.

Hurzeler is up for Barclays Manager of the Month. Charalampos Kostoulas and Pascal Gross both feature on the EA Sports Player of the Month shortlist.

Captain Lewis Dunk is nominated for the Guinness Goal of the Month award, for his long-range strike against Coventry.

Premier League Details Nominations for Hurzeler and Players

The Premier League’s official statement credits Hurzeler for Brighton’s form in September, which included wins over Coventry and Arsenal and a home draw with Leeds.

Brighton’s 3-2 Carabao Cup comeback win over Manchester United does not count towards the Manager of the Month award, since that competition falls outside the criteria.

Hurzeler is nominated alongside Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca.

On Kostoulas, the Premier League statement reads: “The 19-year-old scored in wins against Coventry and Arsenal, and has been a pressing machine throughout September – undoubtedly a key factor in Brighton’s results.”

The league also pointed to his defensive numbers: “No forward has made more defensive contributions, ball recoveries or won possession in the final third than Kostoulas.”

Gross earned his nomination after a strong individual month. The Premier League said simply: “The 35-year-old had one of the best months of his career.”

Full details of the nominations were confirmed in a report by The Argus.

Squad Impact and Tactical Context Behind September Nominations

Kostoulas has settled quickly since his summer arrival, combining a goal threat with defensive graft in Hurzeler’s forward line.

His September form followed Brighton’s decisive victory against Arsenal, a result built around the head coach’s tactical setup at the Amex.

Gross remains central to Brighton’s midfield despite Hurzeler’s managed rotation of Pascal Gross during the international break.

His experience has helped balance a squad still adjusting to newer attacking faces.

Dunk’s nomination reflects his growing threat at both ends of the pitch. Brighton’s defensive foundations have held firm even as the team has pushed forward under Hurzeler’s system, an approach visible in the club’s recent tactical setup at the Amex before the Arsenal win.
