Brighton and Hove Albion are close to finalising a four-year contract extension for Yasin Ayari after rebuffing transfer interest from leading Turkish clubs.
The 22-year-old midfielder has established himself as a central figure under Fabian Hürzeler this season. His growing influence follows Carlos Baleba’s high-profile summer departure to Manchester United. The Sweden international has seamlessly stepped into a starting role on the south coast.
Fenerbahce and Galatasaray both launched approaches for the dynamic central player in recent weeks. However, Albion intend to secure his long-term future. The proposed extension is expected to include a significant salary increase on his current modest wages. Those terms reportedly sit around £8,000 to £10,000 a week.
Hürzeler Praises Outstanding Individual Development
Speaking to The Argus, Hürzeler confirmed there had been “an exchange” regarding a new deal. The manager highlighted Ayari’s focus as a primary factor in his rapid progression since returning from his loan spells.
“I think he’s one of the hardest workers. He’s one of the quickest learners,” Hürzeler said. “He has this intrinsic motivation to improve every day and that’s something outstanding.”
The head coach added that the midfielder “knows what he has at this club” as negotiations progress towards a positive conclusion.
Securing Ayari on improved terms would provide crucial midfield stability. The squad are currently preparing for an upcoming cup reunion with Baleba and Manchester United next week.
