Pascal Groß Miss Costs Brighton as Leeds Survive Late Surge

Brighton rescued a point against Leeds United through Luka Vušković’s header, but Fabian Hürzeler’s side squandered a late chance to secure victory at The American Express Community Stadium.

The visitors controlled the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead when Jayden Bogle tapped home an Ao Tanaka cross. Lewis Dunk prevented further damage before the break, retreating to hook a Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike off the goal line.

Shifting The Second Half Dynamic

The home side raised their intensity after the interval to heavily disrupt the opposition structure. This proactive adjustment halted the away momentum, allowing Maxim De Cuyper to create an opening. His precise corner found an unmarked Vušković, who guided a free header past goalkeeper James Trafford to level the scoreline.

Golden Opportunities Spurned Late On

Despite salvaging a home draw, familiar attacking frustrations surfaced during the closing stages as the match stretched. Pascal Groß gathered a blocked attempt just four yards from the net but lashed his effort wildly over the crossbar.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Paul Merson said: “It’s unbelievable. Three or four yards out and he’s put it well over the bar. Do that 100 times and he’ll score it 99 times.”

Hürzeler will now prepare his players for a demanding schedule of three fixtures across seven days, reflecting on a performance that felt like it “could have been worse”.
