Brighton Transfers: Barber Reveals 31 Deals in 56 Days
Anyone grumbling that it has been a slow summer at the Amex has been put straight by the man who knows the numbers. Chief executive Paul Barber has revealed that Brighton have completed 31 separate transactions in 56 days, insisting the Brighton transfers window has been anything but quiet — and that more new contracts have already been agreed but not yet announced.
Speaking at the club’s fans’ forum on BBC Radio Sussex, the deputy chairman put a figure on the club’s busy summer transfer window: 16 permanent players in across the men’s and women’s senior and development squads, eight loans out and seven permanent departures. The Seagulls have also banked a major fee from Jan Paul van Hecke’s move to Tottenham, part of a churn that Barber said has kept sporting director Mike Cave at his desk almost round the clock.
What the Brighton transfers numbers reveal
Barber was keen to stress that the paperwork does not stop at incomings and outgoings, with fresh terms handed to several members of the squad, as reported by The Argus.
“There is a sense that the transfer window has gone all quiet but we have actually done 31 different transactions in 56 days. And that doesn’t include the new contracts we have done. That is a huge amount of business in 56 days, some of which have been announced and some of which haven’t.”
Goalkeeper James Beadle signed fresh terms before returning on loan to Birmingham City, while fellow keeper Steven Hall has agreed a new two-year deal, according to the club. On the women’s side, WSL pair Maisie Symonds and Maria Olislagers have also committed. With Kaoru Mitoma, Yasin Ayari, Lewis Dunk and Pascal Groß already tied down to 2027, Barber’s message to supporters was simple: the quiet is deceptive, and there is more to come before the window shuts.
