Brighton Tromso: Seagulls Set for Arctic Play-off Trip
A Brighton Tromso Conference League play-off is now all but certain after the Norwegian side thrashed Romanian outfit Cluj 5-0 away in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie. The result leaves Tromso on the brink of a two-legged meeting with Fabian Hürzeler’s Albion later this month — and points the Seagulls towards a trip inside the Arctic Circle.
Brighton Tromso: what the play-off means
Brighton will travel for the away leg on 20 August before hosting the return at the Amex a week later on 27 August. The winners over the two legs reach the Conference League league phase — three home games and three away trips — the reward the Albion earned by finishing eighth in the Premier League last season. The away leg will also be Brighton’s first competitive fixture of the 2026-27 campaign.
As The Argus reported, Tromso were ruthless in Romania, striker Heine Asen Larsen firing two goals inside the opening 20 minutes before their Swedish wing-back completed a first-half hat-trick. Going well in their own domestic league, Tromso will fancy their chances of testing a Seagulls side still finding its feet under Hürzeler.
A five-goal cushion makes the second leg a formality barring a collapse, so Brighton fans can start planning the long journey north. Those mapping the road ahead can revisit our guide to the eight key dates before their European return.
