Joël Veltman Joins West Ham After Brighton Exit

Joël Veltman has his next club. The Dutch defender has joined West Ham United, as the Hammers confirmed the signing, ending his south-coast chapter after he left Brighton as a free agent this summer.

Veltman departed the Albion at the end of last season, one of several senior figures to move on during a summer of change. A versatile operator equally at home at right-back or centre-half, he arrived from Ajax in 2020 and spent six years at the Amex, valued as much for the leadership he brought to the dressing room as for his defending.

Before sealing the move, the 34-year-old said his farewell to Albion supporters, a fitting sign-off after the long-running questions over his future. He leaves as a popular figure among a fanbase that valued his consistency and no-nonsense style.

What Veltman’s move means for Brighton

For the Seagulls, it marks the exit of another experienced defender as Fabian Hürzeler continues to reshape his squad. For Veltman, the switch to the London Stadium keeps him in the Premier League — and sets up a reunion with his former club when the fixtures pair them together.
