Tommy Watson has left Brighton on loan, joining Leicester City for the 2026-27 season in search of regular football. The move sees Tommy Watson head to a Foxes side chasing an immediate return from League One, having suffered successive relegations, with the winger absent from the Albion squad that beat Strasbourg in Vienna this week.
The former Sunderland man endured a first season at Brighton that, in the club’s own words, never really got going, and he spent the second half of last term on loan at Millwall. A campaign in the EFL is designed to give him the minutes and momentum that eluded him after his move to the south coast.
Tommy Watson loan: What Brighton said
Sporting director Mike Cave backed the switch. “Tommy has continued to make progress during his first year,” Cave said. “We believe that this loan will give him the opportunity to do that with a club that will be aiming to compete at the top of League One. We wish Tommy the best of luck for the season ahead and look forward to seeing his development.”
Watson’s exit is one of several moves shaping the Albion’s squad this summer, and it fits the wider pattern of the Albion transfer window. As The Argus reported, fellow winger Ibrahim Osman is in contention to stay at the club for the coming campaign.
