Leicester City Win Race To Sign Brighton Winger Tommy Watson On Loan

Leicester City have agreed a season-long loan deal for Brighton winger Tommy Watson, ending a summer-long scramble for the 20-year-old’s signature.

The agreement was confirmed by transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke and carried by talkSPORT and SussexWorld, with the Foxes seeing off a clutch of rivals. West Bromwich Albion, West Ham, Hull City and Derby County had all been credited with interest as the race for Watson intensified.

Foxes End The Tommy Watson Loan Race

Watson joined Brighton from Sunderland in the summer of 2024 for a fee of around £10 million, arriving on the south coast as one of the most coveted young wingers in the country. The England youth international had cemented hero status at the Stadium of Light months earlier, striking the decisive goal that fired Sunderland to Championship play-off glory and back to the Premier League.

Game time, however, has been scarce at the Amex, and a loan was always the likeliest route to regular first-team football this season. A move to Leicester — described by talkSPORT as a major coup for the League One side — hands Watson a platform to rediscover his best form.

Brighton, who had weighed the winger’s next step for weeks, will now hope a productive campaign accelerates his development before a return to Sussex.
