Danny Welbeck Chelsea talks have not stopped the striker from training with Brighton in Austria. The 35-year-old remains part of Fabian Hürzeler’s pre-season squad while discussions continue over a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
Brighton pictured Welbeck taking part in a high-intensity session during the first day of their rearranged training camp. One image showed the forward lifting a composed finish over academy goalkeeper Lorenz Ferdinand.
His continued involvement suggests Brighton are preparing normally while the clubs discuss his future. There has been no indication that Welbeck has been withdrawn from training or is close to leaving the camp.
Danny Welbeck Chelsea talks continue during pre-season
Sky Sports reports that Chelsea have held positive initial talks with Brighton. Albion do not want to prevent Welbeck from accepting the move, provided they receive a fair price.
The striker has one year remaining on his contract after triggering an extension until June 2027 in March. ReadBrighton reported that Albion are open to selling Welbeck, although an agreement between the clubs has not been reached.
Welbeck scored 13 times in 37 Premier League appearances last season, the best league return of his career. He finished as Brighton’s leading scorer and remains one of the most experienced players in Hürzeler’s squad.
Brighton are due to face Strasbourg in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday. It is not yet clear whether Welbeck will feature, but he continues to prepare with his team-mates while negotiations remain unresolved.
