Brighton’s move for Lucas Bergvall is gathering pace, with the Seagulls reportedly prepared to meet Tottenham’s valuation.
The proposed offer could approach £60million and break Albion’s transfer record for the second time this summer.
TEAMtalk reports that Brighton have identified the Sweden international as a priority target. The club’s recruitment team believe Bergvall could develop into an important player at the Amex Stadium.
No formal bid has been confirmed. However, Brighton are preparing to test Tottenham’s position after indicating they are willing to approach the midfielder’s valuation.
Nottingham Forest have held extensive discussions over Bergvall, while Tottenham have also rejected an approach from Newcastle United. Aston Villa and Fulham have spoken with the player’s representatives, although Brighton’s financial commitment could move them towards the front of the race.
Bergvall is considering his future after competition increased under Roberto De Zerbi. Tottenham have signed Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, with the pair costing a combined £185million.

Bergvall would fit Brighton’s preference for signing young players with senior experience and significant development potential. He can operate as a number eight, carry possession through midfield and support attacks around the penalty area.
Regular football would also offer a clearer pathway than he currently has at Tottenham. Bergvall reportedly wants to explore a permanent departure after concluding that opportunities could remain limited in north London.
