Brighton are set to complete the club-record signing of Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic after booking his medical.
The Seagulls have agreed a package worth around £50m for the Croatia international following lengthy negotiations with Spurs.
The deal includes a guaranteed £46m fee and a further £4m in achievable add-ons. Tottenham have also secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights on a future offer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Vuskovic’s medical has now been arranged, with the 19-year-old due to sign a long-term contract once those checks are complete.
The transfer will surpass the £40m Brighton paid Leeds United for Georginio Rutter in 2024.
Vuskovic becomes centrepiece of Brighton rebuild
Sky Sports reports that Brighton’s improved offer has now been accepted, bringing one of the club’s longest-running summer pursuits close to completion.
Vuskovic pushed for the move after an impressive loan spell with Hamburg last season. Fabian Hurzeler is also understood to have played an important role in convincing him to choose Brighton.
His arrival follows Jan Paul van Hecke’s £52m transfer in the opposite direction.
ReadBrighton outlined the wider defensive rebuild in its latest summer transfer window update, with Diego Coppola also expected to join Paris FC.
Lewis Dunk and Olivier Boscagli remain from last season, while Brighton have added Pascal Struijk and Michael Svoboda.
Vuskovic will become the headline addition. His age, physical profile and Bundesliga experience fit Brighton’s established recruitment model, although the size of the fee brings a different level of expectation.
The medical and contract signing remain to be completed, but Brighton now appear close to securing the centre-back they identified as their priority replacement for Van Hecke.
