Brighton Winger Yoon Doyoung Joins Magdeburg On Loan

Brighton & Hove Albion have sent South Korean winger Yoon Doyoung to 1. FC Magdeburg on a one-year loan, giving one of the club’s most intriguing attacking prospects a fresh development route in Germany.

Brighton confirmed that Yoon has joined the 2. Bundesliga side for the season, continuing the staged pathway mapped out for him since his move from Daejeon Hana Citizen.

The 19-year-old joined Albion on a long-term deal running until June 2030, with the Premier League noting at the time that he was expected to head out on loan in 2025/26.

Yoon has already had senior exposure in the Netherlands. Brighton sent him to Excelsior for the first half of last season before moving him to FC Dordrecht in January to increase his minutes.

Brighton Choose A Harder Loan Test For Yoon

Magdeburg’s move gives Yoon a different challenge. German outlet WELT reported that both clubs have agreed a one-year loan, with the winger arriving from Brighton after spells at Excelsior and Dordrecht.

For Albion, the detail is important. This is less about fast-tracking Yoon into Fabian Hurzeler’s squad and more about testing whether he can handle a more physical, tactically demanding senior environment.

ReadBrighton has already covered how Albion’s wider summer trading has left Fabian Hurzeler with room to keep reshaping the squad. Yoon’s loan sits in the same recruitment model: sign early, stage the pathway, then review after proper senior football.

If Yoon adapts quickly in the 2. Bundesliga, Brighton will have a clearer read on his long-term ceiling next summer.

The club do not need an answer immediately. They need the loan to show whether his pace, left-footed attacking profile and decision-making can translate against stronger senior opposition.
