# Pascal Struijk Europe Admission Gives Brighton A Transfer Pull Boost

**Pascal Struijk has made clear that Brighton & Hove Albion’s European platform was central to his decision to leave Leeds United for the Amex.**

[Brighton confirmed earlier this week](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/media-article/mft-transfer-news-pascal-struijk-leeds-united-june-2026) that the 26-year-old defender had signed a five-year contract after eight-and-a-half years at Elland Road.

The club’s official site has now pushed the next layer of the deal, with [Struijk saying playing in Europe was a “big factor” in his decision to join Albion](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/media-article/playing-in-europe-a-big-factor-in-my-decision-to-join-albion-says-pascal-struijk).

That matters for Fabian Hurzeler. Brighton’s summer defensive work has already changed the make-up of the back line, and Struijk gives him a left-footed centre-back with Premier League experience rather than a purely developmental option.

[Leeds confirmed the permanent transfer](https://www.leedsunited.com/en/news/pascal-struijk-joins-brighton-and-hove-albion), stating that the deal included a future sell-on clause.

For Brighton, the significance goes beyond the structure of the fee. Albion can now sell established players more than pathway minutes. They can offer European football, a clear coaching identity and a squad with room for senior defensive authority.

[Read Brighton has already looked at how Struijk’s arrival fits Hurzeler’s defensive rebuild](https://readbrighton.com/2026/06/29/struijk-deal-hurzeler-brighton-control-test/). His own comments now underline why the move made sense from the player’s side as well.

After a summer of defensive churn, Brighton have added a player who appears to understand exactly why this step matters.
