# Brighton To Face Southampton In Pre-Season Friendly At St Mary’s On 2 August

Brighton & Hove Albion will face Southampton in a pre-season friendly at St Mary’s on Saturday, 2 August.

The fixture will kick off at 3.30pm BST, giving Fabian Hurzeler another useful summer checkpoint before Brighton begin their Premier League and UEFA Conference League schedule.

[Southampton’s ticket listing](https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/southampton-v-brighton-and-hove-albion) confirms the fixture date, venue and kick-off time, while [Brighton’s own ticket update](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/media-article/mft-ticket-news-southampton-pre-season-friendly-july-2025) also lists the St Mary’s friendly as part of Albion’s summer programme.

For Hurzeler, the timing matters as much as the opponent. Brighton’s summer is not a routine reset, with Premier League pressure and European qualification demands arriving quickly.

## Southampton Friendly Gives Brighton A Mid-Summer Checkpoint

Southampton should offer enough Championship-level intensity to test Brighton’s pressing structure, defensive spacing and minutes management without turning the afternoon into a late-window risk exercise.

The venue adds another useful layer. A familiar south-coast away environment should create a sharper test than a closed training-ground fixture, particularly for defenders and goalkeepers working on build-up patterns under pressure.

Read Brighton has already covered how [Brighton’s Conference League dates give Hurzeler an immediate summer deadline](https://readbrighton.com/2026/06/27/brighton-european-clock-fabian-hurzeler-transfer-window/), with Albion entering the play-off round across two legs on 20 August and 27 August.

That makes the Southampton fixture more than a diary filler.

It gives Hurzeler a live read on fringe players, returning internationals and younger names pushing to travel through the final pre-season block. Brighton have already had to balance recruitment, fitness and fixture congestion, as shown by their wider European play-off picture.

A friendly rarely defines a season, but this one should help shape who is genuinely ready when competitive football arrives.
