Brighton & Hove Albion now have a hard European date sitting in the middle of their summer planning.
Albion have confirmed through their official UEFA Conference League guide that they will enter the competition at the play-off stage, with the draw scheduled for Monday 3 August. The two legs will then follow on 20 August and 27 August.
That gives Fabian Hurzeler a clear deadline before Brighton’s second European campaign moves from background planning to immediate match preparation.
Albion’s European Return Sharpens Summer Decisions
The timing matters because Brighton are not simply building for another Premier League season. Their squad has to be ready for a two-legged qualifier before the league phase is even guaranteed, with the club also noting that seeded opponents could include clubs dropping from Champions League or Europa League qualifying routes.
That schedule puts extra weight on midfield durability and defensive depth. Carlos Baleba, Yasin Ayari and the rest of Hurzeler’s engine room will be expected to handle domestic rhythm and European travel without Albion losing the aggressive pressing identity that carried them back onto the continental stage.
Brighton are expected to be seeded alongside names including Atalanta, Freiburg, Monaco and Getafe. The prize is a six-match league phase beginning in October, but the first serious test arrives in August.
For Hurzeler, the message is blunt: by the time that draw lands, Brighton’s squad cannot still look like a work in progress.
