Brighton Mark 125 Years With Seven Stars Plaque Unveiling

Brighton & Hove Albion have marked the club’s 125th anniversary by unveiling an official blue plaque at the Seven Stars, the pub where Albion were formed in 1901.

The club confirmed the ceremony on Wednesday, with Brighton & Hove mayor Theresa Fowler doing the honours outside the city-centre venue. The official site said the tribute also paid respect to founder John Jackson, anchoring the anniversary in the exact place where the story began.

Seven Stars Tribute Sharpens Albion’s 125-Year Story

The timing gives Brighton a useful emotional marker before a season already carrying extra weight. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are preparing for Premier League and European commitments, with Albion’s 2026/27 fixture picture now fixed and the club due to start the league campaign at home to Aston Villa on 23 August.

For supporters, though, this is not just civic branding. The Seven Stars plaque turns the anniversary into something tangible: a permanent city landmark connecting the modern Amex era to the meeting that created the club 125 years ago.

Brighton’s rise from local roots to an established Premier League club with European football on the calendar has often been told through recruitment, analytics and Tony Bloom’s ownership model. This ceremony cuts deeper. It puts the origin story back on the street, in public view, at the building where Albion first took shape.

That matters because Brighton’s modern identity has been built without losing its sense of place. The blue plaque now gives that identity a fixed address.
