At a glance
- Jan Paul van Hecke is attracting growing transfer attention
- Brighton could face a major summer decision
- The defender has become a key player under Fabian Hurzeler
Brighton & Hove Albion may have another important summer decision to make, with interest continuing to build around one of Fabian Hurzeler’s key players.
Van Hecke has developed into one of the Seagulls’ most reliable performers over the past two seasons. His rise has been another example of Brighton’s ability to develop and trust players early.
That has helped Brighton remain competitive in the Premier League. The South coast side stands seventh in the English top flight, with the probability of European football strengthening.
However, following a strong season, Albion might lose some of their best players to top clubs. Regardless, the club’s focus will be on maintaining a squad that can compete in Europe next season.
Tottenham Step Up Jan Paul van Hecke Pursuit
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are intensifying their pursuit of Jan Paul van Hecke. The report claims that Roberto De Zerbi is eager to reunite with the Dutchman after previously working with him at the Amex.
Liverpool are also said to have made contact with Van Hecke’s agent, while Chelsea are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old.
With three top clubs chasing their star defender, Brighton will be facing a lot of pressure in the coming days and the summer.
Brighton Must Protect Their Position
Van Hecke’s contract runs until June 2027, meaning the Seagulls are not under immediate pressure to accept a low offer.
TEAMtalk also reported that Brighton value him at around £60m, reflecting his importance to Fabian Hurzeler’s side.
At 25, Van Hecke is entering his prime and is already a starter for Brighton. His physical presence makes him one of the most dependable defensive players for the club.
De Zerbi could flip the tables
Former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi’s presence at Tottenham Hotspur adds another layer to the story.
Van Hecke was not an established Premier League centre-back when the Italian arrived at the Amex. However, the Dutchman became a far more trusted figure under the Tottenham boss.
Van Hecke made 50 appearances under De Zerbi and is still a key defender under Hurzeler. The 25-year-old’s attacking output has also been impressive this season.
In 34 Premier League games, the centre-back has scored three goals and provided three assists. Across his Brighton career, he’s made 104 top-flight appearances for the club.
De Zerbi helped turn Van Hecke into a more valuable player, and now the same manager is back to tempt him away from the Amex.
